Good day,
I am from a student group, and over the currently going holliday we are patching up our bar-boat. my job as the only one slightly familiar with internet cabling was to recable from the entrypoint of the landline to the moden, since our old cable was quite done for.
However i noticed something strange. Out of habit i matched the new cable to the cable that came in from the landline, that being a cable with 8 veins (blue, blue/white, green, green/white ect.). This however did entail the problem that when i reached the router, the input plug for the DSL connection is one of those smaller telephone ones which can handle max 6 veins.
I have 2 questions regarding this matter:
- Is it normal for the landline to be an eight veined cable much like the UTP8 cables when they enter your home? since this is the first time i've seen it, all other incomming landlines are the small plugged types.
- Given that the most probable answer to my first question would be yes; How can i connect that 8 veined cable to a cable that'll actually fit into my rounter?
My sincerest apologies for any potential poor spelling.
Thank you for your time,
