Landline seems to be different than what is needed?

$

Good day,

I am from a student group, and over the currently going holliday we are patching up our bar-boat. my job as the only one slightly familiar with internet cabling was to recable from the entrypoint of the landline to the moden, since our old cable was quite done for.
However i noticed something strange. Out of habit i matched the new cable to the cable that came in from the landline, that being a cable with 8 veins (blue, blue/white, green, green/white ect.). This however did entail the problem that when i reached the router, the input plug for the DSL connection is one of those smaller telephone ones which can handle max 6 veins.

I have 2 questions regarding this matter:
- Is it normal for the landline to be an eight veined cable much like the UTP8 cables when they enter your home? since this is the first time i've seen it, all other incomming landlines are the small plugged types.
- Given that the most probable answer to my first question would be yes; How can i connect that 8 veined cable to a cable that'll actually fit into my rounter?

My sincerest apologies for any potential poor spelling.
Thank you for your time,
A confused rdhao

Problem with Alcatel ISAM and CPEs

Hi
We are using Alcatel ISAM 7302 Series for providing ADSL service. The solution which is used is based on PPPoE. So we have a BRAS and several DSLAMs are connected to it via several links to the BRAS.
The case is this:
1) CPEs are connected to DSLAM and they established PPPoE session to BRAS.
2) The link between DSLAM and BRAS fails or BRAS fails itself.
3) After Link/BRAS recovery some users cannot be connected to the BRAS.
4) DSL ports are configured in Bridge mode and they are placed inside an identical VLAN.
5) With some users we need to turn off/on the CPE.
6) With some users we need to delete ATM/Bridge configuration on the port and do the configuration again.

We are using several types of CPE.
Is there anybody encountered this type of problem with Alcatel ISAM 7302?

Thank you
Ali

Strange WiFi deadzone

I have a very strange dead zone in my flat where my laptop is unable to connect to any hot spot if its within this area. I'll do my best to explain.

I have a Samsung laptop running windows 7 and my broadband/router is provided by Sky.

My computer and phone are both able to connect to my sky hub router and access the internet with no trouble throughout most of my flat apart from this one specific place (unfortunately where my desk is) where my phone will still work perfectly fine but my laptop will be unable to connect to the router and loose any existing connection it had. When in this area the laptop can still see the router and says is has full bars of signal, but attempting to connect fails with the error "unable to connect".

I assumed something was blocking the WiFi signal so I did some testing and this is where it gets strange:

I moved the router into the same room and gave it direct line of sight of the laptop while it was in the dead zone. Still unable to connect.
I moved the laptop out of this dead zone and away from the router, putting as much space and walls between them as I could, and it connected with high signal.
I then used my phone as a wireless access point for my laptop to check if the issue was with the router.
When the laptop is in the dead zone, it will not connect to my phone either, even if the phone is literally sitting on the keyboard.
When the laptop is moved out of the dead zone, it will connect to my phone with no issues.

I've tried rebooting my laptop, checking drivers are updated, rebooting the router, booting laptop in safe mode, scanning for viruses etc. and the behavior is still the same.

Has anybody here experienced this situation before?

Internet goes out and back in irregular intervals

Hello! I have an odd problem with my internet where starting a few months ago (around March or April), the internet would randomly go out for about 5 to 10 seconds before coming back. The interval for which this happens is completely random. I've had it occur fewer than 30 minutes apart and at one point didn't have it occur for around 6 hours. This was on wireless, and here's what I tried to do in order, the problem still persisted:

Tested different phones and computers
Called isp, told me no problems were detected on the line
Power cycled the router
Moved the router into a different room
Tried a wired connection instead of wireless
Reset the router to factory settings
Made sure firmware was up to date

My router-modem is from CenturyLink, ZyXEL PK5001Z model.

Can I track my data usage through an old router?

My Cox internet data usage has been out of control lately, despite no one's streaming habits changing, and I'd like to compare my own logs to Cox's data meter. Unfortunately, I'm using an older Belkin router that doesn't offer data tracking in the admin page, and we have far too many devices here to track individually.

Is there another way to monitor total data usage through my router?

Lost LAN and wireless internet connection

My computer just suddenly lost both LAN and wireless internet connection. It can detect other wireless networks within my area but not mine anymore, my other laptop and i phone can connect to my internet both wireless and wired. I have done everything suggested on Google to resolve this using various commands but still same problem, so I went ahead to format the system and re-install the OS hoping if it was a virus infection that might fix it, but still same problem.

I have connected my Dlink wireless router to another computer and entered its interface and can see a 192 class of IP address for all my devices including the faulty computer, but the faulty laptop doesn't get any lease and also its acquiring a 168 class of IP.

So over to the gurus, help me

How can I recover my outlook 2007 password ?

I can't open my Outlook 2007 due to password I've apparently changed. I opened in safe mode and made sure there is no password, but this does not help with Outlook. I need some help on what to do. This is my work computer and nobody in the office knows what to do. We have no network administrator. I seemed to have one too many pst files, so the other day I renamed one xxx.old is it a coincidence, but I'm now being asked for a password for a minor pst file (ie not my main one) which has never had a password. Please let me know.

Wired and wireless internet is the same, way lower than what I pay for

Hello TechGuy.
I just registered today, and I'm not good with computers - So if you could answer it in a.. ''noob friendly'' way, that would be awesome.

Anyway,
My connection is supposed to be a 90/90 connection. That is on wired of course.
I tested my wifi today, which was 18/19. Again, it was on my wifi, so I know it should be lower than the 90/90.
I went on my other computer and tested the wired connection (It does not have a wireless card, since it's a gaming computer and there's no need), and I got the same speed, 18/19.
I know for a fact that it has not always been like this, and that I've been getting the 90/90 on my wired, so it started recently.

I tried all the basic stuff, but again, I'm really not good with computers or anything, so there might be something I've missed or something that I just don't know about.

I already checked the internet providers status, and there seem to be no problem.

Love Cuddleh.

BT Wifi Authentification

Hi. This morning ( Thursday 17 July) I 'Logged In' to my BT WiFi Network on my Kindle Fire HD, only to receive an 'Authentication Failed' error message. I have had no problem with it previously and have not (to my knowledge) meddled, fiddled, changed or adjusted anything to do with either my computer, WiFi or Kindle. Positively confused. Please help. I'm on BT Infinity2 and my OS is Windows 7.
Thanks.

I also have BT hub but need to get signal to an outbuilding approx 100ft away. The building is not on the same ringmain as the house and I have tried the best wireless extenders I can find which almost, but not quite reach far enough. Is there an alternate I could try such as a buried cable or getting BT to put an extension in ? If I cable it then the distance is closer to 150ft from the BThub

I am also not a tech expert

Thanks in advance!

PC -> gaming adapter -> wireless repeater -> router | unidentified network

Hi, I bought and set up a wireless extender to sever the back of my house.

I have two android devices that connect with no problem whatsoever and a windows PC that can't get internet access.

For my android device I didn't have to change anything to connect, they found the extender and connected immediately, my PC however runs through a wireless gaming adapter which it connects to via USB.

As far as I can tell I shouldn't have to change anything there either but for some reason my computer, while it can connect to the range extender if given the right up settings cannot access the internet, I'm not sure what to do now.

Sorry if this is a bit short, I'm using my tablet.

My macbook 10.8 will not connect (does not see) Actiontec c1000a DSL modem either via wifi or ethernet, yet pc users can access the system with no problems. Centurylink help folks are no help. I followed the instructions carefully when setting up the system.

The macbook readily and easily connects to other wifi systems.

Closest neighbor with wifi is about 100 yards away ... too far for connection but macbook does see it.

Macbook will not access the modem panel (192.168.0.1) yet it does connect to other ethernet systems.

Apple built in network assistance does not lead me to successful connection

Is this a browser issue? Chrome, Safari, Firefox?

I am not knowledgeable about networking so am in an opaque puddle here. So I need some help here Thanks

Hey guys as of today I've been having an issue connecting to various sites, I get this error:

access control configuration prevents your request from being allowed at this time

I can connect to websites such as twitter, but cannot connect to google/bing/YouTube and many more.

Yes I have googled the issue (using my phone) and I see a lot of results talking about squid? I have no idea what that is, nor have I ever installed anything along those lines.
Everything was working fine and then I went away from my computer for a little, came back tried going to google and everything stopped working. I checked internet options, everything in LAN settings is disabled. Please help

Unable to connect to network

My son's computer will not connect to the home network. He has Windows 7 and has a wireless adapter in his computer. He was able to get on just fine. He downloaded Windows Movie Maker and Microsoft Security Essentials and suddenly his computer could see the network but could not connect to it. We did a system restore to before the things he had downloaded but still unable to connect. When I do ipconfig this is what I get:

I want to send a copy of my Cisco switch and router's IOS to my Solarwinds TFTP which is installed on my laptop. This generates a "Socket error" or "Error opening socket" or "Unexpected error"

I have re installed the TFTP server on the laptop, turned off the firewall all together and have made sure that UDP 69 is open but to avail.

Any thoughts???

Port forwarding

I recently got my internet home for about a week and i noticed that i was unable to play any games that offered a online feature it just sticks at the loading screen for ever. So decided to go into my router to enable port forwarding/ port range forwarding and still nothing happened. I then did a port scan on my modem(Paradyne model no. 8381-A3-200) and a number of opened ports showed up 12 to be exact but not the port i wanted which is 9339. i then connected my router(wrt54g2 v1 {firmware:dd-wrt
{factory firmware does not work}) up and i did the same scan and 3 different ports showed up. my modem and router ip address are different modem is 172..... and router is 192...... i have tried the games on the same internet provided by the same isp and they worked fine they just wont on my internet.
I contacted my isp but they did nothing customer service is not a very common practice in my country so even if they are blocking 9339 they wont unblock it....is there a way to work around and get this port to work.
ps..they are the only isp in my country so i cant threaten to leave them if they dont fix it

thank you
if you need anything more i can provide it
